TLC & Land Base Learning

Our classroom is about revitalization of nÄ“hiyawÄ“win pimahtisiwin “Our Way of Life”. In our classroom we teach our students about who we are as nehiyawak, the history of how our ancestors lived off of the land living wholesome and balanced lives. We utilize the Elders in our community for guidance and support from our Elders with the TLC Program. Our Elders share stories and experiences to build character in our students by showing them how to be respectful, generous, helpful, understanding, and hard-working, to name just a few. TLC is about instilling students of Ahtahkakoop with a strong identity, so strong that it will help carry them through in life after graduation.

In order to have nēhiyawēwin pimahtisiwin we help our students connect with the land through hunting, trapping, fishing, hide making, pow-wow dance, singing, gathering medicine, picking berries, tea, and so on. We also encourage our students to embrace nēhiyawēwin, our Cree language because it is directly connected to everything around us.
